"Seat by the Window: Montmartre" Wins Award at Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club's 117th Annual Open

"Seat By the Window: Montmartre" Wins Award in New York City Show
Yea!

Today was awards judging day at the National Arts Club in New York City ... for the 117th Annual Open Exhibition for the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club.  This evening, I received an email telling my that "Seat by the Window: Montmartre" was awarded the Winnie Borne Sherman Memorial Award.  While I've been juried into many of these Annual Exhibitions ... and love having my work on view in this special venue, it's still the "cherry on top" to take home an award for my art.

The awards jurors included: Gary Erbe, award-winning artist; Bob Bahr, editor of Plein Air Magazine; and Beth Carver Wees, Curator of American Decorative Arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

One of highlights of my art career was winning Casey Memorial Award at the CLWAC's open in 2008. The club knows how to make every event amazing, with an image of your winning painting projected large to a captive crowd there for the awards dinner. So, it's very exciting to be honored again.

The exhibit is on view October 1 to October 25 at the National Arts Club.

The Benefit Reception for the Metropolitan Museum of Art will be held on Friday, October 11, 5:30-8:30pm. This is so much fun!  Great to see the walls hung with care in this historic arts club. (National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South, New York, NY 10003. (212) 475-3424. Contact the club prior to visiting. They hold some private events in the space.)

The Awards dinner will be held on October 25, 6-9pm.

Two great excuses to visit New York City in October. Plus, I'll be painting in Gramercy Park on Saturday, October 12 with some of the folks from the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association.  Sounds like more fun than I can handle.

Lots coming up.

Tomorrow, I'm helping with the mailing of the Great Falls Studio Tour Brochures. If I were in Nashville, Tennessee (I'm not), tomorrow night is the Reception and Awards Ceremony for the Cumberland Society of Painters National Juried Exhibition at Richland Fine Art.

Friday, October 4, 6-9pm is the Reception at the Berkley Gallery (31 Main Street, Warrenton, VA) of the Fine Art Professionals of Northern Virginia. (My pieces "Sunflowers in My Studio II," "Caffe Bar" and "Cafe Break" are in the exhibition that runs until October 15.)

Saturday, October 5 is a special celebration of Great Falls Studios 10th Year Anniversary being held 10am-5pm at the Great Falls Library, 9830 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls, VA. I'll be there 2-4pm for the book signing -- of a new publication highlighting 16 artists' studios -- which includes my home studio space. That night is the Reception and Awards Ceremony for the Portrait Expressions Exhibit at ArtSpace Herndon, 7-9pm at 750 Center Street, Herndon, VA.

And, Sunday, October 6, I really hope you can join me at McLean's MPA Artfest, an outdoor juried festival with 49 artists displaying their work under a tent in McLean Central Park at the corner of Old Dominion Drive and Dolley Madison Blvd. in McLean, VA. Rain or shine. 10am-5pm. Find me under Tent #22!

Good News! Two Paintings, Two NYC Shows in November

Yesterday, I heard word that my painting of an Italian market, "Arance, Oranges", was accepted into the Allied Artists of America 96th Annual Exhibition that will be held at the National Arts Club in Gramercy Park, NYC. Yippee! The exhibit runs November 13 to December 2 with a reception on November 29. This is very exciting. I love the National Arts Club ... and this is my first time being accepted by Allied Artists of America into their exhibit. I also think that "Arance, Oranges" is a powerful painting, so I'll be happy standing next to it at the reception. See more of my market paintings on my web site in the places and still life galleries (I'm not sure where they belong -- so check out both).

Two of my paintings will be in exhibits in New York City in the month of November. "Sunflowers II" was accepted into the American Artists Professional League's 81st Grand National Exhibition 2009 held November 3 to November 13 at the Salmagundi Club with a reception on November 8.

So, on November 13 you could see both in case you want to spend a Jill Banks' Art in NYC day.

I'm busy getting ready for Sunday's MPA Artfest, the juried outdoor arts festival held in McLean Central Park on the corner of Old Dominion Drive and Dolley Madison  Blvd. (Route 123) in McLean, VA. (Actually, I suppose I'm writing my blog post.) I set up some of the screens with artwork in the gallery at the Artists' Atelier last night. It was impossible. There are too many pieces that I really want to include ... that I'm proud of and that someone might want to buy. I probably also needed to take off my "exhibit" hat and put on a "show" hat. Perhaps it's not important how perfectly each piece complements its neighbor ... since people are unlikely to buy the whole display and place it just as I have on their walls. But, I was determined to fret anyway.

Yesterday, too, I selected frames from FrameMasters for 13 new drawings that husband Randy will be framing for Sunday's event. I'll probably give a sneak peek at some of those later today or tomorrow. They're having a sale this weekend (just in time) and we got there about 10 am yesterday to find the lights were out. So the beginning of my massive frame search began with a flashlight. Happily, lights were restored a little later.

Tonight is First Friday at the Artists' Atelier, the studio I share with 15 other artists at 1144 Walker Road, Suites D&G, Great Falls, VA. Come visit us 7-9pm and see the new show in the Gallery.

"Tea with Anne" Wins Award in New York Exhibit

I got home late today -- couldn't stop painting, plus I took a terrific crash course from Heidi Mraz on Digital Photography this afternoon, so it was a full day. Anyway, in the mail I received a fat envelope from the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. Fat envelopes are usually good news. So, I won the Frank B. and Mary Anderson Cassidy Memorial Award for my painting of Anne Heilman.

That is good news! In a week, Randy and I will be traveling up to New York to go to the Benefit Reception for the Metropolitan Museum of Art -- that is taking place at the National Arts Club -- where "Tea with Anne" is being exhibited as part of the 112th Annual Open Juried Exhibition of the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. Then on October 15th, we'll head back there for the Awards Dinner. Can't wait!

I do need a new hairdo and to do some serious rummaging through my closet. Painting clothes probably aren't appropriate attire.

By the way, I was amazed by Heidi's knowledge of the world of photography. Her course was great. She is teaching two more workshops this Fall through the Great Falls Foundation for the Arts -- one on "Photoshop Elements: The Basics" and the other of "Photoshop Elements 6: Beyond the Basics." I highly recommend her as a teacher.

The above photos are "scenes" from my studio, Saturday, September 27, about 6pm.

Accepted into New York Art Exhibit!

I just received word that a painting of mine was accepted into the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe's Art Club's 112th Annual Open Exhibition at the National Arts Club in NYC. The painting, "Tea with Anne," depicts Anne Heilman enjoying tea at my mom's house. The exhibition will be open to the public from September 23 to October 13, 2008 from 3pm to 6pm, Monday through Friday, 1pm-6pm Saturday and Sunday. Please call the National Arts Club at 212-475-3424 before visiting as the galleries do close for official functions. The National Arts Club's address is 15 Gramercy Park South, NY, NY 10003.

It's an honor to be included in this open (not limited to members) juried exhibition which includes works in a variety of media by women artists from all over the United States. The Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club is one of the oldest women's art clubs in the country and was founded in 1896 in honor of Miss Wolfe, a prominent New York philanthropist and art collector. Find out more about the club at www.clwac.org.
